It seems as though no candidate on either side of the aisle has inspired so many gleefully derisive nicknames as former Massachusetts Governor Willard Mitt Romney. So, for the non-political junkies out there, here is a brief guide.
Multiple Choice Mitt- Coined in 1994 during Romney's first run for office. It referred to his slippery support for reproductive rights, which he has since slipped out of. Now used to refer to any social issue Romney has or may flip-flop on.
The Flipper- Coined by Republican activists in the 2008 campaign to contrast Romney's frequent changes in position to suit the political situation with The Gipper's (Reagan) steadfast adherence to his principles.
Le Mitts- Derisive nickname refers to Romney's bizarre obsession with France. Romney went on Mormon mission there to convert French people to LDS, apparently it didn't go well.
Massachusetts Mitt- The contribution of the Washington Post editorial page, it is an allusion to the socially liberal version of Mitt Romney that ran for office for over ten years.
Mitt the Apostate- OK, that's mine. Romney has been distancing himself from some of Mormonism's more controversial aspects, including the church's teaching on the second coming of Christ.
Mittens- Diminutive nickname to convey out a light weight Mitt often appears to be.
Slick Willard- Nickname comparing Mitt to Bill Clinton's relationship to the truth.
If anyone has any more, I'd be happy to add them to the list.
Clark Griswald From Hell has been used in certain circles.
